Dubai

Milja and I arrived in Dubai very early yesterday morning via Istanbul. We picked up a hire car from the airport and we went on a mini adventure around the city, ending up at Dubai Mall, the biggest and most impressive mall in Dubai and that I have been to. It’s not completely finished yet, but we went to the aquarium in the middle and browsed around. It is built next to the Burj Dubai, the first building ever over 700 metres tall (it is 818m).

The country is very reminiscent of South Africa - the roads, the big cars, the dry landscape, the big housing developments etc. It’s not too warm yet as yesterday was a dust storm and today is a bit cloudy but it definitely is t-shirt weather!

We have a few trips planned to places like the Souks and old town, off roading in the desert, more shopping, the beaches, going to The Atlantis at the top of the nearest palm tree development, and more.

Chris and the family here are all well and we had a fun evening yesterday. It’s lucky we have ‘locals’ to give us tips on where to visit.
